Mission

Mission Statement

The Cooperative is the state-licensed maternal and child health consortium which coordinates and supports maternal-fetal and newborn care throughout the seven-county region of Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem counties.

 

Through the collaborative efforts of hospitals, public health agencies, universities, healthcare professionals and consumers, The Cooperative's activities that are directed toward improving the health of pregnant and birthing individuals, infants and families and decreasing perinatal mortality and morbidity include:

  • Assisting providers in the development of quality regional clinical programs that ensure access to the appropriate level of care and the cost-effective utilization of resources.

  • Developing and disseminating educational programs integrating current theory and practice.

 

  • Collecting and interpreting data concerning critical health and social factors that drive  maternal-fetal and neonatal morbidity and mortality as a basis for identifying the need for clinical or educational program development.

 

  • Supporting the communities of South Jersey through evidence-informed programs designed to prevent and reduce the harm of clinical and social factors that negatively impact health and wellbeing. 

 

These activities of The Cooperative are focused on prevention of pre-term births and maternal-fetal and neonatal mortality, woven into the fabric of a safety net to support the families and communities of South Jersey.

History

The Cooperative is a private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) coalition of healthcare professionals and consumers licensed by the New Jersey Department of Health as the maternal and child health consortium serving the seven counties of South Jersey. Founded in 1982, the Cooperative strives to maximize resources, address gaps in care and identify emerging regional needs.

Service Region

As the maternal and child health consortium serving South Jersey, The Cooperative is focused on improving the health of families in Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem counties. The region as a whole has about 21,000 births each year and The Cooperative's staff and partners are concerned about the health of each and every one. The Cooperative monitors success with a sophisticated data collection and analysis program that is used to identify emerging health trends and create effective interventions.

Member Birth Facilities

All hospitals providing maternity care in South Jersey are members of The Cooperative with designated seats on the Board of Directors. The Cooperative is proud of the strong and dynamic relationships built with member hospitals - partnerships that promote the best in healthcare for South Jersey families.

Family Health Initiatives is a subsidiary agency of The Cooperative. An established expert in data management and analysis, Family Health Initiatives helps nonprofit and public agencies improve the health and wellbeing of communities throughout the United States.
